The meeting was jointly organized by the Ministry of Energy Transformation and Water (PETRA) of Malaysia and the ASEAN Center for Energy (ACE), hosted by the Philippines, and attended by representatives of ASEAN member states such as Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Singapore and Malaysia in offline and online forms, and Timor-Leste attended the meeting as an observer.
PETRA issued an announcement on May 1 that the main agenda of the NEC-SSN meeting was to formulate the key areas of the ASEAN Nuclear Energy Strategy and Action Plan, evaluate the list of potential activities that can be implemented in the field of civil nuclear energy, submit it to the ASEAN Senior Officials' Meeting on Energy (SOME) held in June 2025 for review, and implement it in the field of civil nuclear energy (CNE) in the ASEAN Action Plan for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) 2026-2030.
Diskussioner hölls också inom NEC-SSN-ramverket mellan ASEAN och dess dialogpartners och internationella organisationer, inklusive Korea Nuclear Energy Association, ASEAN Business Council, det integrerade stödcentret för kärnkrafts icke-proliferation och kärnkraftssäkerhet, Japan Atomic Energy Agency och Center for Global Nuclear Energy Partnership, för att diskutera sätt att hjälpa ASEAN att utveckla en regional kärnkraftsindustri och hitta långa lösningar.
