To boost offshore wind power development, Vietnam recently announced a new competitive investor selection model, aiming to achieve 17 gigawatts (GW) of offshore wind capacity by 2035. According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), representatives from Vietnam's Ministry of Industry and Trade confirmed that the first batch of offshore wind projects will be selected through this competitive selection process to achieve the target.
Specifikt planerar Vietnam att anta en två - sceninvesteringsprocess för projekt som leds av icke - stat - ägda företagsutvecklare. Denna plan är i linje med landets åttonde kraftutvecklingsplan (PDP8 reviderad, som släpptes i april 2025), som sätter ett målintervall på 6 GW till 17 GW för vindkapacitet till havs mellan 2030 och 2035 och projicerar en årlig BNP -tillväxttakt på 10% för Vietnam under denna period.
GWEC bedömer att Vietnam med sina tydliga offshore -vindutvecklingsmål och stödjande urvalsmodell har potentialen att bli den tredje - största vindkraftsmarknaden i Asien - Pacific Region och en attraktiv destination för globala vindkraftsinvesterare.
